GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provide clinical care for patients following established standards and practices.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to Clinical Supervisor
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries item weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to bodily fluids.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
JOB DUTIES:
- Greets patients in a friendly, professional manner and prepares them for physician exam. Screens and records appropriate information (vital signs and medications) in electronic medical record to facilitate diagnosis.
- Prepares and assists physician with any procedures and administers injections per physician requests.
- Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls—including refill requests and phone triaging of patients. Instructs patients appropriately after physician facilitates response.
- Navigate EMR precisely and accurately.
- Ensures cleanliness of exam rooms, nurses’ station and injection room.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Maintain drug sample cabinets.
- Maintain patient education and medication handouts.
- Performs related work as required and requested by supervisor.
- Attend staff and educational meetings.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of medical assisting theory and practices. Ability to assess and evaluate patient for physician to see. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and medical staff. Ability to identify problems and communicate clearly.
Education: Completion of course of training from an accredited school of medical assisting.
Experience: One year of experience as a medical assistant in a medical office preferred.
Certificate/License: Current State certification in medical assisting.
